SIG Alert!

40 Weekdays of Prayer for the Pastors, Churches, Cities, and Requests of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association.  See Prayer Resources above for full lists and definition of "SIG Alert."

Day 35 – Isaiah 55.6-8: “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while he is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.  Let him turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.  For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” declares the Lord.

  1. Pray that the people of Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association area will find their hearts hungry and thirsty for God and His will for them, become weary of their wicked ways, and be drawn by God to Him in sincere repentance.  Pray that the ministries of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association congregations and association will be founded on God’s truth, anointed by God’s power, and funded by God’s people.
  2. Pray for Bro. Les Higgins and his wife Tasha and family, as they plan a new church start called Grace and Truth Church.
  3. Pray for new collegiate ministries and church plants in southern California colleges and universities.  Pray for Rev. Neil Walker, campus minister at USC.
  4. Pray for the 2019 Ignition CSBC Youth Evangelism Conference on December 27-28, 2019, in Ontario, the 2,000+ youth and leaders who will attend, the mission projects, the growth of the youth groups, and the staff and volunteers who will make it possible by the empowering of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Pray for the homes where lives are being destroyed by sins of various kinds, including domestic violence, abuse, gambling, pornography, substance abuse, and idolatry of all types.  Pray that the transforming gospel will cause these lives and homes to be made new creations by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Do you want the Father, or the Father’s things?  —Tim Keller, in speaking on the Parable of the Prodigal Son

The existence of hypocrites does not prove the non-existence of true believers.  —C. H. Spurgeon

Tell me what the world is saying today, and I’ll tell you what the church will be saying in seven years.  —Francis Schaeffer

The hard work puts you where the good luck can find you.  —unknown

If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done. —unknown

If you don’t make the time to work on creating the life you want, you’re eventually going to be forced to spend a lot of time dealing with a life you don’t want.  —Kevin Ngo

Repentance is the funnel through which all personal revival flows.  2 Corinthians 7:9-11  —unknown

Knowing God is your single greatest privilege as a Christian. —Sinclair Ferguson

To ignore the danger of aggression is simply to invite it... We shall doom our children to a struggle that may take their lives ...We know that unless free peoples stand boldly and united against the forces of aggression, they may fall wretchedly, one by one, into the web of oppression.  —General Omar Bradley, Armistice Day speech, November 10, 1948 (published in Omar Bradley's Collected Writings, Volume 1, 1967)

Political correctness is a weapon used to silence people who tell the truth.  —Ayaan Hirsi Ali

While not seeking to diminish the impact of racism upon a culture, I also want us to recognize that illegitimate or continual cries of racism are self-limiting and self-defeating. They simply foster a victim mentality that reinforces a pathology of dependency. Victimology can be defined as nurturing an unfocused strain of resentment rooted in a defeatist identity through which all realities are filtered, rather than viewing challenges as opportunities to overcome. It is virtually impossible to be a victor and a victim at the same time. In God’s Kingdom, victimology negates the foundational theological truths of sovereignty and victory in Christ (Romans 8:28, 37).  —Dr. Tony Evans, Oneness Embraced

The Bible very clearly teaches that Jesus will be the judge at the last judgement.  If God predestined some for salvation then they are going to heaven or going to hell; period.  God does not preordain and then change His mind.  What then shall Jesus judge a man for?  There is only one sin that will send a man to hell and that is unbelief.  John MacArthur states that truth very clearly in his study Bible.  Revelation says that we will be judged according to our works.  If God preordained our eternal destiny then why would Jesus be required to judge us?  —Bob Raymond

To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.  --Mahatma Gandhi

People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.  --unknown

If you hug to yourself any resentment against anybody else, you destroy the bridge by which God would come to you.  --Peter Marshall
