Congratulations!  You've reached the website of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association, with churches in 31 cities of southern Los Angeles County.  Welcome!  We exist to Resource, Assist, Coach, and Equip the leadership of local churches, empowering them to make disciples and launch new churches and ministries.  We are here to empower our pastors and church leaders to run their RACE--Resource, Assist, Coach, and Equip!

40 Weekdays of Prayer for the Pastors, Churches, Cities, and Requests of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association.  See Prayer Resources above for full lists and definition of "SIG Alert."

Day 37 – Ephesians 4.1-3: I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

  1. Pray that we will walk worthy of Christ, and in love with one another, and that the pastors of our churches will be transformed by the Holy Spirit to have only one desire—to please Jesus in all that they do.
  2. Pray for Rodolfo Martinez, Hispanic Church Planting Catalyst; Don Overstreet, LA Reaching LA; Jimmie Davidson, Church Starting Catalyst, and other CSBC field and Fresno staff who work to help Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association churches achieve the visions that God has given them.
  3. Pray for all of the associate pastors, ministers of music/worship, youth pastors, education ministers, and all other ministers in our LBHSBA congregations, that they, and their families, may be used of the Lord in great blessing and power.
  4. Pray for Dr. John Shin, Director of LBH Zion Theological School (English CLD), and Rev. Chhomdoeun Buon, Director of Long Beach Discipleship Development Center (Cambodian CLD), the registrar, professors, and students, as they work and study to prepare themselves for further service to the Lord in His Kingdom.  Pray for Rev. Jose Luis Gallegos and the EBI school at his church.  Pray for a new effort to look at starting a Spanish-speaking CLD at one of our churches, and raising the financial support for it.  Pray that God will show us how to minister to hurting families of all kinds, including those of ministers.
  5. Pray for our 29 California associations, and their Directors of Missions (DOMs), staff, and volunteers who work to help their pastors and congregations achieve the visions God has given to them for their communities and cities in California.

Day 38 – Luke 21.34-36: Be on guard, so that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of the earth.  But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place and to stand before the Son of Man.

  1. Pray that we will be alert and have strength from God to persevere through any difficult circumstances of our lives, and give to God the glory He deserves.  Pray that God will enable us to recruit to active faith in Jesus Christ the political, economical, educational, cultural, and religious leadership of our 31 cities, and to recruit prayer intercessors and prayer-walkers to pray for them.
  2. Pray for Ruben Young, and his leaders, as they start Refuge Church San Pedro.
  3. Pray for Terrence Brooks, and his wife Javanne, and his associate Will Sibley, as they start New Wine Community Church in downtown Long Beach.
  4. Pray for Rev. James Go (Moderator), Rev. Reynaldo Lazo (Vice-Moderator), Rev. Walter Carter (Associational Fellowship Team Leader), Rev. Bill Cox (Council At-Large Leader), Rev. Kevin Leathers (Treasurer), and Marian Graham, Secretary and Clerk.
  5. Pray that God will performs signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, that the lost will recognize as God’s hand, repent, and turn to Him for salvation.  Pray that God will show our churches how to advance the Kingdom into all areas of our association, to drive out the forces of sin and evil, and to move into the areas they vacate, as He promised to do for the Israelites in Exodus 23:29-30.

He who knees the most, stands best.  –Dwight L. Moody

Let eloquence be flung to the dogs rather than souls be lost.  What we want is to win souls.  They are not won by flowery speeches.  –Charles Spurgeon

There is a Ruler above, and His Providence guides all things.  He is our Friend and has plenty of work for all His people to do.  It is such a blessing and a privilege to be led into His work instead of into the service of the hard taskmasters—the Devil and sin.  –David Livingstone

You should never be proud of doing what’s right.  You should just do what’s right.  —Dean Smith, legendary North Carolina Tar Heels coach

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature.  —John Stuart Mill, philosopher

Don’t write so that you can be understood, write so that you can’t be misunderstood.  —President William Taft

You need to plead with God to do what only He can do, and then you need to get out of the way and let Him do it.  —Miss Clara, “War Room”

Within 40 years of Pentecost, the gospel had reached every part of the known world.  What if within 40 years of this moment, there were no unreached peoples left?  —Vance Pitman

God said that Pharaoh was raised up (in power and authority) for judgment.  Moses was raised up to set slaves free and create a nation for God to use.  You are either a Pharaoh or a Moses.  Don’t be a Pharaoh; be a Moses.  --Richard Graham

It’s been said that if the brain were simple enough to understand, we would be too simple to understand it.  --Doris Tsao, assistant professor of biology and computation and neural systems at Caltech

The North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (NAMB) and HELPLINK make the documents related to the following issues available as general informational help to anyone who is interested. Neither the NAMB nor HELPLINK consider the HELPLINK documents to be advice or counseling. Readers should not assume that HELPLINK documents are substitutes for professional counseling as provided by mental health professionals, legal counselors, or religious practitioners.

The primary purpose of HELPLINK documents is to illustrate that a real relationship with God in Jesus Christ is relevant to real issues of living. HELPLINK documents further illustrate how Bible guidelines contribute to living a full and meaningful life.
